The
umbrella body of cattle breeders, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association
of Nigeria (MACBAN), has commended the Federal Government for setting up a
committee to resolve the incessant conflict between farmers and herdsmen in
Nigeria.
In a
statement in Kano yesterday by its National Secretary General, Alhaji Baba
Othman Ngelzarma, the group noted that the committee would aid the creation of
grazing reserves and cattle routes across the country.
The
statement also appealed to government to identify and work closely with
MACBAN’s leadership to resolve matters on the welfare of its members.
The
group assured security agencies of its readiness to cooperate with constituted
authorities to resolve security matters, especially between farmers and
herdsmen.
MACBAN,
however, advised security agencies to handle security matters with high level
of professionalism.
The
statement confirmed the inauguration of the group’s new national executives,
where the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, urged them to eschew
rivalry and tackle the challenges affecting their members.
MACBAN’s newly inaugurated National President, Ardo Muhammadu
Kirowa, assured the Sultan of the members’ readiness to justify the confidence
reposed in them.
