locals fight bokoharam

Almost 200 suspected members of the Boko Haram were killed today by residents of  Rann, the headquarters of Kala-Balge local government area in north eastern part of  Borno State, officials and locals from the area said.
Sources said the insurgents, numbering over 300 stormed Rann and adjoining villages around 4am today but met resistance from the people who had knowledge of the impending attack.
This is the second attempt by Boko Haram insurgents on Rann. A similar one was waged by the attackers some month ago but retreated when they reportedly found it difficult to penetrate the town.
It was however gathered that this time around, the insurgents had succeeded in entering Rann where they killed some people and burnt some houses but reportedly recorded the worst casualty.
“The people in Rann and environs used traditional fighting equipment and charms to repel the attacks…they really confronted the attackers who were equally ready for fight,” a source said.

Judge Orders Oscar Pistorius To Undergo Mental Evaluation

Judge Orders Oscar Pistorius To Undergo Mental Evaluation

A South African prosecutor asked for Oscar Pistorius to be sent for a mental evaluation after a psychiatrist told the Olympic and Paralympic track star’s murder trial he had an anxiety disorder.
Prosecutor Gerrie Nel argued he wanted to prevent the 27-year-old sprinter, who faces life in prison if convicted of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, from later appealing on the basis of a disturbed mental condition.
Nel told the court there was a “reasonable possibility” that Pistorius suffers from a mental illness, adding that without a proper evaluation the case could later be appealed over Pistorius’ mental health.
If granted, the evaluation would likely further delay a trial now in its 31st day. Defence lawyer Barry Roux has argued against the motion, saying it was “premature” to have the evaluation done now, as he planned to call other witnesses.

Every time you think that black children are not just as smart as others, stories like this should be a clear wakeup call.  This child is one of the examples of what black children become with focused parenting, consistency and strong discipline in the household.  Share this story with everyone you know, and this should be the prototype for what our children can become when we focus hard enough.
This child wants to be a neurosurgeon, so he may end up becoming the next Dr. Ben Carson.  Is there a child in your household who shows his brilliance, but doesn’t do so consistently?  Get him into a program so he can focus.  It’s not about what your kids are learning while they are in school.  It’s about the programs they take after school and during the summer that make all the difference.

President Jonathan Extends Emergency Rule In Borno, Yobe, Adamawa

For the third time, President Goodluck Jonathan  Tuesday extended emergency rule in the three North-east states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States and asked the National Assembly to expeditiously approve the extension.
The president in letters addressed to Senate President David Mark and the Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, said extending the emergency rule was an option to consider because the security situation in the affected states had not improved.
According to him, the security situation in the three states remained daunting in view of persistent attacks by members of the Boko Haram sect, whom he said, had continued to unleash terror on both the civilians and the military.
The letter read: “May I respectfully draw your attention to the state of emergency proclamation 2013, in respect of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States, which was approved by the National Assembly. By virtue of the provisions of Section 305(6)(c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, the proclamation aforementioned would have elapsed after six months from the date of approval of the National Assembly.

77 Chibok Schoolgirls Identified In Video Released By Boko Haram [SEE Full List]

Seventy seven of the more than 200 schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State by Boko Haram terrorists, a month ago, have been identified from the video released Monday by the sect. This came as the United States disclosed that it is flying manned surveillance missions over Nigeria in an effort to pinpoint the location of the abducted schoolgirls.
The International Criminal Court, ICC, on its part described the abduction of the schoolgirls as a crime against humanity. The alleged conversion of the schoolgirls into Islam by the sect has also been condemned by Islamic groups and the All Progressives Congress, APC describing it as unacceptable. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) said the forceful conversion is a call for war.
Following release of the video by sect leader, Mallam Abubakar Shekau showing scores of the girls wearing hijabs and reciting the Holy Q’uran, Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima ordered mass production of the video to be shown to the parents of the abducted girls for identification.
After the identification exercises, which Governor Shettima said, yesterday, was on-going, he confirmed that 77 of the girls have been identified in the video. Addressing the #BringBackOurGirls campaigners at the Borno State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, where he released the names of the girls, he announced that he would not relent in the efforts to rescue the girls until they were all safely re-united with their respective families.
According to him, the process of identification was still on-going and, therefore, expressed optimism that more of the abducted students could be identified.
He said: “Fifty-four (names of other 23 girls were released later) of the girls in the video have been identified by their names at an exercise that involved some parents of the girls, fellow students that included escapees from abduction, some teachers, security men and some officials of the Borno State Government led by the Chief of Staff to the Government House, Abubakar Kyari. The parents and students were conveyed to the Government House in Maiduguri for an open identification exercise.”

Boko Haram Lays Booby Traps, Landmines To Stop Military

As the world rallies to secure the release of the over 200 schoolgirls who were kidnapped from their school in Chibok, Borno State, by Boko Haram terrorists about a month ago, it has emerged that the insurgents are likely to have laid booby traps and landmines to stop the military from finding them, Sky News reported yesterday.
Last week, the insurgents blew up two bridges in Borno and Adamawa States, ostensibly to slow down Nigerian soldiers who have been searching for them and their victims for weeks.
Notwithstanding the attempts by the sect to stop the military from tracking them down, the global effort to rescue the girls continued at the weekend, with the offer by the Israeli government to send a team of counter-terrorism experts to assist in the search and rescue operations.
Japan, at the weekend, also assured the Nigerian government of its preparedness to send its civil defence forces as long as the United Nations endorses it.
Similarly, British Prime Minister David Cameron joined the BringBackOurGirls campaign during an interview yesterday on the BBC with fellow guest Christiane Amanpour.
According to Sky News, a former member of the Nigerian military recommended that starving members of Boko Haram could be a way of rescuing the girls.
Former Air Commodore Darlington Abdullahi said: “They may have made land mines, one cannot rule that out.

How Teachers Locked Up Our Daughters In School And Ran Away – Chibok Parent Reveals

One of the parents of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls  Sunday introduced a new twist to the saga surrounding the abduction of almost 300 girls from their school in Chibok, Borno State almost a month ago, when he said the students were locked up by their teachers who subsequently scampered for safety and left them at the mercy of the terrorist group, Boko Haram.
Speaking to reporters from THISDAY and ARISE TV Networks, who were in Chibok Sunday for almost two hours, Watila Simon, the father of one of the girls, Godiya Simon, said though he was out of town when the insurgents laid siege to Chibok, he immediately made a phone call to his daughter, but was told that the school had not yet been attacked.
His daughter was one of the few girls who was fortunate to escape from the notorious Sambisa forest, the enclave of the terrorists.
He said: “I called my daughter in the school, asking, ‘Godiya where are you?’ She told me she was in the hostel. Then I said but they are attacking the town and they have started burning houses and you are still in the school, and she said yes.
“I asked, ‘Are you together with soldiers?’ She said no, and I asked about the police, and she said they were not with them, but that they were safe in the school.”
He revealed that when he spoke with Godiya, the insurgents were still attacking the town and had not gone to the school.
“She equally told me that all the teachers had already left and there was no elderly person with them,” he said.

Meet The Man Who Wants To MARRY His Laptop, Says Computers Are His ‘Preferred Sexual Object’ (PICTURED)

Challenge: Chris Sevier, who wants to marry his laptop, has claimed he should be allowed the same rights as same-sex couples.
An army veteran has challenged a court decision denying him the right to marry his laptop in a bizarre case that loosely resembles the plot of Oscar-winning film Her.
Chris Sevier has filed a motion to the 10th US Circuit Court of Appeal arguing that if same-sex couples are allowed to wed, he should be able to tie the knot with his Macbook.
The amateur model claims computers are his ‘preferred sexual object’ and enjoys sex with the devices more than with ‘real women’.
He tried to marry the device, which he says is laden with porn, but the licence was rejected by Utah officials on the grounds of ‘sexual orientation’.
The case bears similarities to Her, a Spike Jonze film in which the protagonist, played by Joaquin Phoenix, falls in love with his operating system (voiced by Scarlett Johansson). Jonze picked up the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
In Sevier’s motion, which is 50 pages long, Mr Sevier states: ‘They discriminated against me when they rejected my request to marry my computer.

This is the moment a quick-spinning whirl of multi-coloured ‘tornado’ fire shot into the sky while a farmer was burning off his field.
The natural phenomenon, sometimes described as a ‘fire devil’, was caught on camera in this incredible image by stunned driver Janae Copelin in Chillicothe, Missouri.
The photographer who snapped the scene said the colourful inferno and thick clouds of grey smoke – created when the fire mixed with strong winds – was the ‘coolest/scariest thing’ she had ever seen.

Al Qaeda’s Shocking Response To Boko Haram’s Abduction Of Over 200 Schoolgirls

Al Qaeda’s Shocking Response To Boko Haram’s Abduction Of Over 200 Schoolgirls

As word spread like wildfire on Twitter and Facebook that Nigerian militants were preparing to auction off more than 200 kidnapped schoolgirls in the name of Islam, a very different Internet network started quietly buzzing too.
“Such news is spread to taint the image of the Mujahedeen,” wrote one dubious poster on a web forum used by Islamic militants whose administrator uses a picture of Osama bin Laden. “I have brothers from Africa who are in this group,” attested another, insisting that they were like “the Quran walking the earth.”
Boko Haram, the cultlike Nigerian group that carried out the kidnappings, was rejected long ago by mainstream Muslim scholars and Islamist parties around the world for its seemingly senseless cruelty and capricious violence against civilians. But this week its stunning abduction appeared too much even for fellow militants normally eager to condone terrorist acts against the West and its allies.

Nigeria, US Commence Talks On Modalities To Rescue Chibok School Girls

Nigeria and United States have commenced talks aimed at ironing out modalities of what is expected to be an inter-agency collaboration to rescue the over 200 schoolgirls who were kidnapped from their school in Chibok, Borno State, over three weeks ago.
The meeting between the countries came on the back of more offers of assistance from China and France to the Nigerian government in its efforts to rescue the students.
To complement the international support, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has also offered a cash reward of N50 million for credible information that could lead to finding and rescuing the girls.
However, despite the global outcry over the kidnapping and attempts to reunite the girls with their families, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) played the blame game yesterday, when it accused the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, of conspiracy and colluding with his state Commissioner for Education and the Chibok school authorities to set the country on the path of deception.

Finally, The US And Great Britain Join Nigerian In Search Of Abducted Girls

1

In a good new development, the Great Britain and America have finally decided to help in the search for 234 girls kidnapped from their school in Chibok Borno state on April 14.

British Foreign Minister William Hague confirmed that Britain would provide ‘practical help’ to secure the safe release of girls while the US Attorney General Eric Holder says the United States was sending FBI agents to trace the abducted school girls.

‘What has happened here… the actions of Boko Haram to use girls as the spoils of war, the spoils of terrorism, is disgusting. It is immoral,’ William said.

However, he said he did not want to discuss the details of what help Britain was offering.

The news that both the UK and U.S. will help in the search comes after a video was released of the head of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau where he claims responsibility for the abduction of the missing girls.

‘I abducted your girls. I will sell them in the market, by Allah,’ Shekau says in the video.

Father Kills His 9-Month-Old Sick Son By Poisoning Him With Herbicide In Bauchi

The Bauchi State High Court Number 10 presided by Justice Abdulkadir Hussein Suleiman has sentenced a father to six years in prison for administering chemical herbicide to his 9-month-old child.
Counsel to the state Ministry of Justice, Mr Sha’awanatu Yusuf, earlier told the court that on June 6, 2013, the convict, Shitu Adamu of Zakshi village in Toro Local Government Area  poisoned his nine-month-old biological son by administering herbicide chemical on him and as a result, the son died on the spot.
He said the act was culpable homicide punishable with death contrary to section 221 of the penal code.
In his evidence, the Police prosecutor, Sgt. Caiphas Adamu, told the court that the accused, who is a father of two, confessed to have committed the crime during investigation.
He said his nine-month-old son was sick and his wife, who was four-month pregnant,  took him to hospital.
The Police prosecutor said his wife gave her husband a list of prescription, but he complained that he had no money at that time, so he administered a chemical herbicide on his son, thinking that it will cure the sickness, unfortunately the boy died.
